UFC 247 prediction and analysis: Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier

On January 23, old rival Conor Mcgregor and Dustin Perrier are meeting once again inside the UFC arena on UFC 247. Both of them fought before at the beginning of their career at UFC 178, and Conor Came out victorious at that time by knocking out Dustin in 1st round. It was 7 years ago, a lot has changed since then. In this article, I am going to analyze the outcome of their next fight based on the performance of both higher that we witnessed in the last 7 years.

One of the main reasons this fight is exciting to me because of the development and change of Dustin in the last 7 years. He is one of the fighters who achieved great success after his loss against Conor. Now, his boxing has improved a lot and his movement and footwork also improved significantly. He is known as a scrapper but, in this fight, if he fights in his usual style, I am afraid we might see the same outcome as before. The reason, I am saying this because Conor performs his best with fighters who scraps a lot. Dustin’s footwork has improved but Conor is a master of maintaining distance. To defeat Conor, Dustin has to confuse Conor with surprise attacks. He has to use his ground game. In the first two rounds, he needs to constantly go for the takedown. He has an extraordinary ability to combine strikes after the takedown has been defended. He needs to maintain the short distance where he would able to land scrappers short punches. If he gives Conor the chance and space to land his left it won’t be good for him.

We all know Conor will come aggressive. He will be the one who will dominate the ring and act as the aggressor. He will continuously go forward. Conor and Dustin both are counter puncher, but in this fight, I predict Conor will try to go for the knockout in the first round to make a show. Conor’s wrestling also improved a lot since before. He also did better with Khabib than Dustin. So I predict Conor will not be easy to wrestle with if Dustin plans to do that. Every punch he throws will be with the intention to knock Dustin out. Dustin is the type of fighter, Conor is most comfortable fighting with. Therefore, I believe he will be very relaxed in the whole fight. Nothing is more fearful than a confident and relaxed Mcgregor.

After analyzing all these, I predict Conor Mcgregor to win. But, Dustin has proved all of us wrong many times. He has defeated power punchers such as Justin Gaetheji and masterful boxer such as Max Holloway. Though the analysis predicts a win for Conor, we know MMA is not math. Anything can happen at any moment. If Dustin can bring Conor’s power to the same level as him, and keep scrapping with him, and if he can take advantage of Conor’s Tank, I am confident he can win this match.
